One of the most fascinating birds I have ever seen was in a zoo inside a nocturnal specially lighted habitat display. I wished I could take photos or even a Kiwi bird video but it was too dark. We could watch these little odd shaped birds scurry around and poke their long bills into the ground to get their food, but to protect them from overzealous observers, no flashes or other camera lighting was allowed inside the display area. That was a good guideline. It was at the San Diego Zoo more than ten years ago. The flightless kiwi bird is the national bird of New Zealand.
