No matter where you are, what service or activity would a public library need to provide to attract you as a regualr customer?
Yes, I guess I am way too curious, but with reading clubs there are CD-ROMs, test guides, DVDs, events (like Harry Potter day on the July 21st. Even the muggles will be here!)
so what would it take? I also know this is in the current news, maybe not the best place for this question, but I want answers from the current crowd please!
I was just dicussing something similar with a friend the other day. When she and I were in school we had to go to the library to do research for papers, essays projects etc. Kids don’t need to do that anymore because of the internet. I got rid of all of our dictionaries and encyclopedias as they were no longer needed. My kids would sometimes have to look up definitions of words that were not in any of our dictionaries at home so they decided to just use web dictionaries all the time. So basically the question she and I have is how long will it be before reference books are extinct as they are not needed to to such high technology now. I think libraries are used less and less now a days. Not sure what it would take honestly. I live in a small town with a library that has about the same amount of books that I have in my own house. People would rather buy the book online or when they run errands as everyone is so busy these days and to make one more stop is just to much. Know what I mean? I love books. I yard sale for them and buy them for a nickel or dime and have so many to read already that a trip to the library would be pointless as I have enough to read already. But you did ask a great question and I am one of those guilty of never using the library.
What would it take to get you into your local public library??

I’d probably just need the time to go and someone to show me around a bit. I’ve recently moved, don’t know what the library here is like yet, but in general, I tend to like them.

It doesn’t take too much for me. I love the library. And mine is in a big, historic, beautiful building, so it’s like a mini museum. That keeps me coming back.

I go to my public library whenever I finish the books I’ve checked out because I want more. I also donate books I buy to them since funds are limited. Usually check out about 6.

i go to my library all the time to use the free Internet. i only have it at work otherwise. i ride my bike, its only about 5 minutes away. anything FREE is always a good way to get people into the library. my local library also shows new release movies for teenagers, and serves pop-corn. Free of course!

Free programs that all of my kids can attent while I look around or sit down and read for about an hour. But they need to have stuff for age 3 to 10

I enjoy reading and with the price of hardbacks today, the library is my best bet. They’ll even bring me books. Have loved being in the library since I was three and got my first library card.

Years ago I practically lived in my local library (love reading) this was well before the Internet was popular.
I started taking my daughter from a very early age (6 months)so she also has a passion for reading. Every year she does the book reading challenges, attends the different event the libraries hold.
I would recommend that all parent enrol their children at their local library as it’s so beneficial for children not just to encourage reading but all so to benefit from the many things library have to offer nowadays.

I do use my local branch – I have to go 8 miles to the main library. I tend to buy lots of books though. I am a bookophile and hoard up. Last month I donated 8 bin liners of books for a charity sale. I think that many people are losing the habit of reading. they want visual art forms – DVD, film, PC. The libraries within our county are well used to the best of my knowledge

i love reading but i tend to buy and swap books with my friends now as the staff at my library are so miserable and rude , they seem to forget that it is us the taxpayer that pays their wages
one assistant was so spiteful and patronising to an old man as she told him it was now an electronic system and she could not stamp his book any more . He was so confused by the new system he left with no books I walked out in disgust and i dont intend to return
