Does the public library have academic databases?

I want to know if the public library has access to academic databases like those found in a university.

Depends on the library. Larger, urban public libraries will have more academic resources than smaller, rural ones. Bottom line: call your library and ask what they have.

Even if your public library doesn’t have the databases, you may be able to use the resources of a nearby college or university, especially a state-supported college or university, although you may have to go on-campus to use them. Call and ask about their guest policies.
