I worked at a library for a year during the Xmas season a while ago the what I did was:

Shelve books to appropriate locations
Organize and fix misplaced books
Answer the phone at the front desk
Check books and in and out
Answer any customer questions.

The job is basically a Library Assistant.

These student employees are often referred to as "pages" as well.

There are many positions in a library. Librarians can be Children’s Services Librarians, Adult Services, Business Services, Reference, and so on. The Head Librarian (Or CEO) is just that – the head of it all. These positions require ALA-accredited degrees in Library Science. Other positions, such as Library Assistants, Pages, and Circulation Desk Attendants (those who check in and out materials) do not have as much responsibility and perhaps no post-secondary education, but their roles are vital nonetheless. Library assistant. Gosh I wish I had that job. I did that job as part of work experience and I loved it!

They are called Library attendants and some places, Library Assistants too do this job. They help the users of library too. The top person is called Librarian and some libraries you find Assistant Librarians too

Library attendants

Besides shelving they fill in for tea breaks on the help desks, and help with problems with the printers and photocopiers. As they are mobile they are usually required to be vigiliant and report anything about misuse of the library, or speak to library users as they go around.

All kinds of people are recruited for this job, including students wanting casual work, or very mature people wanting permanent position.

Library officers are another position of the same level but they are more the customer service desk role.
