What is your routine to ensure that library books do not get lost?

I am getting really sick of paying for lost books.

I usually keep them all in the same room that they never leave until they go back.

Keep them in a communal area of the house.
Ours (since we have an 8 year old and 4 year old in the house) have to be returned to the living room table after someone reads them. That way they are always in sight.

I keep them all in the same common place, a book bag for example and when I’m done with them I immediately put them back in the common location.

i keep them in the library sack respective of that library. I have the parish (East Baton Rouge), Lafayette, and the State library. Each book stays in each bag and renewed on-line with my ELF reminder system, well the library’s.

One thing I resist the temptation to get more books than I’ll read in the time period allotted for the borrowing. I make a list of books to read and check out later.

Yea i totally understand what you’re saying! me too i always had to pay because i would read them then put them down & then i’d loose them! and paying over and over really sucked, also the library was sick of me loosing them, soo i trick or two is
    1. if you go to school, you have a school bag, every single time you read the book or take it out of your bag, make sure to put it back into your bag! thats what i do with homework and my books it works really well! also you can make a check list and post it somewhere ex:your door to remember where you put stuff or to not forget it

    2. you can put it on your desk (or something like that) in your room and make sure to keep it there until the due date comes up,

sometimes returning the book before the due date even if you’re not done can help you out !

I have one of those little plastic containers that you can drill to the side of a kitchen counter or where you need it to put books in that I am currently reading. You can buy one at Office Depot or Staples for a cheap price. If that is to much to do, make a section for the books you check out in a book shelf or put all your books in a drawer that is just for them.

I keep them in one spot. When we get home from the library I put them there. When we are done reading them, they go back there. It’s on the table with the fishtank in the living room. Usually I don’t even let the kids leave the living room with the books. Now can you tell me how to avoid returning books late all the time? ;-)

Forgot to add that I never actually pay the library for a lost book. If I lose a book or if one of the kids wreck it (which has happened a couple of times) I visit the book store and buy a new copy for the library. Sometimes you can get it on sale too. I always think it is better to replace the book you lost rather than have the library have to go through the hassle of collecting the money and buying a new copy themself.

each day I repeat to myself …. "I really Kan’t reed anywhey"

that discourages me from borrowing books in the first place.
