What books should a private library contain.?
I am thinking about adding a book collection in my study and am lost as to what types of books i should keep. I am not a big reader so my personal choices are limited to a dictionary and a few cooking books.
The types of books i am thinking of are reference and the odd history book, This library will of course be used by any guests i have over. Any ideas as to what i should keep?
I am not trying to impress anyone, the reason i am having a library built is so i can get into reading.
Why on earth would you want a private library when you don’t read?
Stick the few books you WILL enjoy on a shelf and fill your life with things you DO care about.
If you have money to throw about on a library you won’t use, give it to a real library, for thousands of people to use for decades to come.
Your personal favourites.
I’d imagine any guests you have who want to look something up would use Google, to be honest.

You should look into novels. They are fun to read — and a lot more interesting than dictionaries and cook books. (But don’t get me wrong — I love dictionaries too, especially the ones with a thesaurus.)
Try something like The Count of Monte Cristo, or other classics. Contemporary novels like Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code might also interest you.
Best of luck.

You’re a non-reader, so do what all non-readers do when trying to impress people. Buy a selection of leather bound books in the proper color scheme to fit your decor. They even have made whole shelves of books, just the rear spines for people such as you.
