They’ve erected a ‘feminist wall’ at my university’s library?

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

When I saw it, I thought of you guys
It’s an homage to feminism and women’s empowerment. It takes over the entire West wall. On the bulletin board underneath, people are encouraged to write about feminism. I had a read and it would seem that my school is filled with ardent feminists. Your thoughts?
@Rebecca, I live in Canada. Those political statements wouldn’t go over well here.

@O.H. Thanks
It’s McGill University. The wall is at the McLennan Library.

That’s awesome.

Are there any good places to stay near glasgow university library or st marys cathedral in scotland?

paying someone a visit very soon

Ask the person you’re visiting because there are a great many "establishments" in that area that may sound very good but are actually hovels owned by Rachmann like individuals. Best to look in the city, it’s not far from the Uni.

What college/university has a library science program in Chicago?

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

I work as a volunteer at a library and becoming more interested in becoming a librarian, either for a school or a public one. Can anyone who is a librarian tell me what school(s) I can attend on campus or online, and give me information I need to know in order to complete the program?

I also like to note I have not finish my degree (left college a few years ago) and probably have 50 credit hours left.

You’ll have to finish your bachelors degree first, because library science is a masters program. Here’s a list of ALA accredited programs – sorry, none in Chicago.

Does Yale University have a children’s library open to the public?

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

Also, are there any children friendly events going on campus all year round?

I am on a tight budget, and looking for activities to do with a child under 6 years old. Not to mention its winter time here in the New England area.

Some information is below.

Do all the computers in a University library have the same IP address?

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

No they do not. Depending on how the network is set up, they will all have either individual IP addresses assigned from the ISP, or will have individual IP addresses assigned by a router which would have the IP address assigned by the ISP.

Bottom line, no they do not, and can not.

Cheers

I need a JSTOR article, and it’s only available from a university library. Is there a way I can read it?

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

The article is called "Invisible Points in a House of Mirrors". My e-mail is photografr7@yahoo.com if you can think of a way.

You can access this in person at a university library and email a pdf to yourself. Just check to be sure they subscribe to the journal first.

can anyone just go into a university library and read books without being a student there?

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

You can do this in most university libraries, but you will most likely need a university ID to use the computers. Most universities don’t check ID’s to enter. I should know; I’ve worked in a few.

What is it like getting your library science degree from the university of north texas online?

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

How much time studying do you spend? How much $? Is it difficult? Any information not found on their website would be helpful. I’d like to hear personal experiences and opinions if possible.

icollege.enacre.net – it has info about getting into this school, tips to apply and grades requirements.

Anyone from SMU? How do you feel about having the Bush presidential library at your university?

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

Students, faculty, alums, what’s your opinion?

I live next door to it, and I have a friend on the Board of Trustees. Most of the faculty (and a few Board Members) is vehemently opposed to it, but the students are most affluent and conservative.

Most people in the neighborhood don’t want the traffic or the attention. A few of us don’t want the legacy.

In an incredibily conservative area, there were a couple of demonstrations to stop it last month, followed by an op ed piece in the paper questioning the whole reason for a library.

What are the best places to study besides the dorm common room and university library?

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

*I’ve tried studying in my room, failed attempt; reason: bad roommate.
*”””Dorm common room; is full of smokers and loud rock music
*”””’University library; lack of attentive librarians which leads to noise and chaos overall and I only end up studying for 2 hours :(
Any ideas??
P.S. the public library in my region is currently being reconstructed to due to changes in the blueprints and whatnot.
Thanks in advance =)

In spring, summer, or fall you could always find a secluded corner of campus and study outside, but in winter you could study in a friend’s dorm if they let you or you could ask one of your professors if they know of another spot you could study. Sorry, but options are kind of limited when its cold out :(
