I have a bunch of MP3 files that are no longer on my computer that are still listed in my iTunes library. They all have a (!) icon by them telling me that iTunes cannot find the file, but is there a way for me to quickly remove all of these from my library?

Hmm. Tough one ha ha. You usually get a bunch of those after deleting the song from it’s original location. To avoid this, have iTunes save you music when importing i.e. Edit –> Preferences… — Advanced (tab) and select ‘Copy files to iTunes Media foler when adding to library’. You can try moving your library to a playlist. I don’t believe the songs with missing files will transfer. Then you could just copy the collection of songs from your playlist to another location, delete your library, and import the saved songs.

Well, I think you can use a flashdrive, but I am not sure. i used a backup device but it will probably be the same. First I went to my itunes and went under file then to library and then consolidadte library. then go to music and transfer to flashdrive. then on ur other laptop, click music and import then

I’ve been thinking about it over and over in my head and it still doesn’t make sense. How can it contain information, yet not contain information?

From Wikipedia: "In any case, it is clear that a library containing all possible books, arranged at random, is equivalent (as a source of information) to a library containing zero books."

Can an infinite set be equivaalent to an empty set? How can everything be equivalent to nothing?

Perhaps an infinite set is not the same as an empty set in mathematical terms, but I don’t believe Borges’ story was meant to be defined that way.

I had never heard of the Library of Babel till I read your question, and it sparked my curiosity. From the few minutes’ research I did, it appears that the Library didn’t include merely every book that could possibly be written in any possible language, but also every book holding every possible combination of letters, punctuation, and spaces that would fit within the size parameters. Many — the vast majority — would undoubtedly look like, and be, complete gibberish to readers, though some of what looked like gibberish would merely be in code. Given all that, you could theoretically start at the front door and look systematically at every page of every book as you came to it for your entire life, and never find even one page that you could recognize as having any meaning at all. Even if you weren’t looking for a particular piece of information, you would have gained no information at all.

I see no PRACTICAL difference between that situation and the library with no books, unless you also posit a race of people who never need any information for any reason whatsoever, who don’t care if what they read makes any sense to them, and who exist merely to look at all the books page by page.

These certain songs only exists in a playlist. What am I doing wrong? I remember version 10 had the option to individually add songs to your library.

Open Windows Media Player. Press "Alt" and you will see a menu come up at the top of the screen. Click "Tools", click "Options", and than click the "Library" tab. Once you are there you have many options for how you want your music imported into the Library. You can set it to automatically add a song when it is played and you can change what folders media player will look in to automatically add music.

If you need more help than message me.

I wanted to open up a library at my local community center of just a few 100 books and hopefully increase that. I have no idea how to set up a library or how to catalog them. Can anyone suggest a program as I can set up a laptop if need be or maybe a website that would help me in setting up the library. Thank you.

I would recommend a website because that way you’d actually, at some point, be able to go and let others use the archives.
Anyhow, you could use a content management system (CMS), which is equally useful, but you’ll need to learn a bit of it.

However, a database should also help you archive stuff, and if you’re looking for an easy to use, free database, try downloading the link given in the sources.

Just authorizing the computer won’t copy all of your music. You need to actually copy the .mp3 or equivalent files to the iTunes Library of the second computer.
Just drag the files off of iTunes and into a flash drive or removable media and then vise versa on the other computer.

And no, the two libraries would be completely independent of one another.

Also, if you don’t want to copy files, and your computers are on a network, you can turn on sharing in iTunes’ preferences to stream the music from one computer to the other.
