How often do libraries lose books dropped off at another library in the same system?

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

I dropped off my book at a library other than the one where I checked it out. I have renewed it many timse hoping it appears. I have made calls to the distribution center and checked shelves at both libraries. any suggestions. I know the charge will be about $50.00 if it does not appear. I never took this book out of my house and it is not at my house.

Well, there are actually a few questions you’re asking…and a few different answers.

When you say it’s another library in the same system, do you mean something like a different branch of the same city or county library? "Systems" can mean different things to different groups of libraries. In some cases, "systems" can be very loosely-organized groups or very centralized organizations throughout a region. The more closely organized a system is (like a city or county system), the more likely they’re going to have a delivery system that can get items returned between branches/libraries.

Still, most libraries have some way to make sure that books delivered to the wrong location get sent back to the right place, so having them be completely lost isn’t all that common. However, it does happen.

Your best bet is to talk to the library where you borrowed the book from. They may be able to mark your record with a "claimed returned" status, or something similar. Depending on just how your library handles such things, you may or may not have to pay a fine. It’s a very local decision, so you really do need to talk to them directly.

Hope this is helpful!

How do i tranfers libraries from itunes account from my home computer to my lap top.?

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

I turned on home sharing on both computers and no libraries show up under "shared" on the lefthand side where it should be.
I turned it on through preferencs and the advaced button, still doesnt show up

if you have a storage device you can go into the music folder on your computer and there will be an "iTunes" folder, just copy it onto the storage device and then paste it in the same spot on your laptop. that will make an exact copy of your itunes account on your laptop, with all music and videos being transferred

Are there any good public libraries in the Jersey City area?

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

I am currently in school at Rutgers, and we have an amazing library network and resources. Unfortunately, I’ll be transferring out of this school for next semester. The closest library to my home is the Bayonne Public Library and quite frankly…it’s terrible. But because I am not a resident of NYC, I can’t take books out from the NY Public Library. Does anyone know of any decent public libraries in my general area where I can actually take out books?

Hey I am 14 and i looked up some locations of libraries for you. Here is a website were you can actually can find public libraries in New Jersey in you area.

How can I apply a type of a Philosophy to an educational article about libraries put on carts in schools?

Friday, February 12th, 2010

I have to write a summary of an article called "Room for Readers" from the NEA magazine. It’s about how school libraries are losing ground and having to turn their libraries into carts, although research has proven that libraries and resourceful librarians improve student achievement. So the main thing I have to do, besides summarizing this article, is apply a philosophy, i.e. idealism, realism, etc., or an educational theory to this. Please help me out.

I read the article that you are referring to. Research has demonstrated that students achieve more in schools with libraries staffed by library professionals. Nevertheless, a well-staffed and equipped school library is vulnerable when facilities and/or funds are limited in a school district. I think this is an example of pragmatism on the part of the school board and administration. When funds and resources are limited, the school library often appears at or near the top of the list of things that they think they can do without. If enrollment is increasing (but the building size isn’t) they see the need for a classroom so "let’s take the library". Or, they need to cut the budget and maybe cut staff, so "let’s lay off the certified librarian and hire a clerk or an aide at 1/3 the cost". This is what is happening. It’s also happening to guidance counselors, art and music programs, school nurses, and even to sports programs (believe it or not!).

Are there companies that specialize in designing and setting up private home libraries?

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

I am trying to find companies that design, build, and set up private libraries in personal homes. Do you know the names and websites of any companies that would do this?

Are libraries the bane of publishing companies?

Friday, February 5th, 2010

It would seem that every time a library obtains a book, it is allowing potentially hundreds of people to read it without paying. How do publishing companies deal with this? Don’t they lose sales because of libraries?

Library sales help consumer sales…..readers are notorious for spreading the word that they enjoyed a book. Library readers tell their friends , friends buy books…
If publishing companies relied strictly on retail sales, many books wouldn’t sell at all…
i balk at buying certain authors, however borrowing a book from the library is free, so i might take a chance….if i like it i tell my friends, if i like it enough, i might buy it , even though i’ve already read it….

how can I use two different iPod in two different iTunes libraries in one computer?

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

I have an iPod nano 1st generation and recently bought an iPod nano 4th generation (16Gb). My idea was to use them for different tipes of music. But the application iTunes does not recognize that I have two different iPods so I cannot use them with different libraries and music lists. Any suggestions?

Can I synch the itunes libraries on two different accounts on the same computer?

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

I want to synch my brother’s and my iTunes libraries, so when he buys songs it shows up on the library on my account and vice versa. Is there a way to do this?

maybe one of these will help:
make more than 1 itunes library/account on 1 pc: in this link, where it says ‘hold down the shift key’, continually hold it down while clicking the files until the little dialog box opens. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesWin/8.0/en/15502.html

using multiple ipods on 1 pc: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495

how to share music between different itunes accounts on 1 pc: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1203

using 1 account’s money for other accounts or gifting a purchase to another person: you can buy items and send the download link to another person. or ‘gift’ items to yourself if you have different accounts, but money in only 1 account. open the itunes store screen, click on ‘buy itunes gifts’. next page- scroll down to ‘give specific music’.
