Do librarians that work on public libraries get salaries?

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

I need to know because I want to work at a near library because I want to earn money.

Thank you.

Librarians do earn a salary, often a good one depending on the area. Most Librarians possess a Masters degree, if not higher. School librarians are often also required to maintain a state teaching certificate as well. Check out Salary.com for an idea of the average librarian salary in your area.
You can check out your local city or county website to see if they are hiring for an assistant or other non-degreed position.
Good luck!

is this like an online reference section for a library?

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

ok, so it’s more of a forum but who answers the questions? just anybody?
thats pretty interesting. thanks for answering my questions.

well, I answer what I can, do some research and go off on all kinds of tangents trying to find the answers. I enjoy challenges, and I worked in a public library as a clerk for 10 years. But no you don’t have to be a professional to answer. BTW, the web-site listed below is like an online reference section for a library–in fact it is being developed by librarians. It is often one of the first places I go for information.

Does the library buy books from people?

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

I have several books that I want to get rid that are in perfect condition. I was just wondering if the library would buy them from me. I also have several DVD’s that I need gone too. Would Blockbuster or Movie Gallery buy them from me?

Sadly in the UK most libraries would be unable to buy books from you. With money to run libraries being cut every year by local authorities, book budgets are taking the hit before staff cuts are being made. This means that libraries have to plan in advance what books they will buy over the coming year (they’ll put aside a certain amount for different types of books) and why they tend to opt for books that will be popular with local readers. So you can pretty much guarantee they’ll have the latest books on the Richard and Judy reading list but not perhaps an obscure sci-fi series only a handful of people round the country might read.

With money being so tight they can’t just offer to buy people’s books off them, regardless of how good condition they are in.

You can of course sell books through second hand shops or even through Amazon marketplace and Ebay.

how do you get itunes to download 3.0 software on ipod touch from the computers at the library?

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

i have an ipod touch and i bought the 3.0 software but i cant download it because my computers internet is to slow and it wont let me download the new software. The only thing i can think of is to download it at the library but i dont know how to get itunes on those computers. i am also looking for a way to get it easier but i dont really know any others,

You don’t need iTunes on the library computer. Connect your iPod Touch to their wireless network.

How do i add limewire music to my main itunes library?

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

I have downloaded some music from limewire, and it has stored automatically in itunes under shared. How do i add this shared music to my itunes library so that i can sync it with my ipod?

thanks in advance, im not too good with the technical stuff!!!

use import music folder referring to your specific folder that contains this limewire music. Then go from there. The whole idea behind using iTunes is to both enjoy playing music and exporting it to an iPod for personal listening pleasure. mp3. That is the format you must have it in to put it into your iPod.

How do I transfer my purchased items in my iTunes Library to another Library on a different computer?

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

But still have the content on each computer? I’m trying to get my purchased items on a different computer with no luck. I have authorized the computer already but it’s still blank. Also, if I delete something one one Library, then will it, too, be deleted on the other Library in the other computer?

Just authorizing the computer won’t copy all of your music. You need to actually copy the .mp3 or equivalent files to the iTunes Library of the second computer.
Just drag the files off of iTunes and into a flash drive or removable media and then vise versa on the other computer.

And no, the two libraries would be completely independent of one another.

Also, if you don’t want to copy files, and your computers are on a network, you can turn on sharing in iTunes’ preferences to stream the music from one computer to the other.

Online Library- is there such a thing?

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Is there such a thing as an online library where I can read full books online?
It is an academic library, as I am studying.

Go to the Gutenberg Project

However if you’re talking about a university library all the publishers are online these days, but you need an academic account to get access or pay for an account yourself.

ETA

Contact the librarian where you’re studying and find out how you can do it. All academic institutions now have their library resources online. Many publishers prefer online research and you will often find entire books online for research as well protected by DRM

Do all the computers in a University library have the same IP address?

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

No they do not. Depending on how the network is set up, they will all have either individual IP addresses assigned from the ISP, or will have individual IP addresses assigned by a router which would have the IP address assigned by the ISP.

Bottom line, no they do not, and can not.

Cheers

Can I synch the itunes libraries on two different accounts on the same computer?

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

I want to synch my brother’s and my iTunes libraries, so when he buys songs it shows up on the library on my account and vice versa. Is there a way to do this?

maybe one of these will help:
make more than 1 itunes library/account on 1 pc: in this link, where it says ‘hold down the shift key’, continually hold it down while clicking the files until the little dialog box opens. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesWin/8.0/en/15502.html

using multiple ipods on 1 pc: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495

how to share music between different itunes accounts on 1 pc: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1203

using 1 account’s money for other accounts or gifting a purchase to another person: you can buy items and send the download link to another person. or ‘gift’ items to yourself if you have different accounts, but money in only 1 account. open the itunes store screen, click on ‘buy itunes gifts’. next page- scroll down to ‘give specific music’.

Some pervert keeps looking at porn sites at the public library?

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

I don’t have internet access at home so I go to the public library to use the Internet. Almost everytime I log in some weird looking guy is always looking at porn sites and when I told the librarian she said there is nothing she can do?

Why is the librarian letting this perv look at porn???

Librarians are staunch keepers of our First Amendment right of Freedom of Speech, which includes the right to read or look at porn as long as the viewer is of legal age and the media in question is legal in your state.
