Do you feel bad for the homeless in the public libraries?

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

I saw many many homeless who are sleeping in a downtown public library are woken up rudely by securities, some of them were even kicked and knocked with a stick. The funny thing is that I sometimes fall asleep too in the library when doing research or just reading books. But I have never been woken up by anybody in that library. Is my clean cut image, decent clothing, and mac book really make that big of a difference? After all, aren’t both of us, citizen of this society, supposed to be treated equally?

You have to remember ur in a society that started with the infamous words in its declaration..All men are created equal…except if your a woman, indian, black, or poor, which left rich caucasion land owners as all men who were equal and to be recognized..as in todays society, the richest 1% are equal, everyone else, get in where u fit in..

What types of books are considered to be reference books in a library?

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

I am doing a report for school and need to use one reference book as a resource.

Books containing facts that are consulted for greater trust of ones knowledge or opinions. Webster’s defines its root "refer" as to relate or to turn to for information, to transfer something for the attention or action of something else.

The one reference book that I’d use is the Encyclopedia Britannica. If you don’t have that, try World Book.

Are overdue library books factored into your credit report?

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

I know this sounds stupid, but I just got my free credit report and there’s $50 that’s way past due and "in collections/attorney" and the date was way before I even got my first credit card. The only thing I can think of for that amount were some overdue library books from a few years ago. How am I supposed to pay it if I don’t know where it’s from and I’ve never been contacted to collect the $?
I can’t remember, do they ask for your social security number when you sign up for a library card?

Yes, libraries can now report to your credit report.

They usually ask for your SSN, and now, after a certain amount of time (90 days with Los Angeles Public Library) They can write the debt off, and send it to an outside collections agency, denoting your credit report with such information.

Can I sync music straight from WMP10 to my zune or can I transfer my WMP10 library to the zune software thing?

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

I use windows media player 10 for everything, i just like it better then WMP11 or anything else. I had a zen and i never even installed anything, I could just make a playlist on WMP10, plug in my zen, and sync it to the device. Can I do this with my zune, and if not, can i transfer my WMP10 library to the zune software marketplace ow whatever you use for the zune?

Yes, just go under options and add the folders that contain your music. Or if you want ALL of the music files on your computer to show up add the C drive. (Adding the C drive, if it even lets you, also adds all of the beeps and stuff from programs that are installed.) then you just click sync.

Where was the first library that let patrons borrow written materials?

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

I know that libraries for a long time were repositories of written knowledge (like the monastery libraries in the Middle Ages), and people could go there to read the manuscripts. But I’m curious where was the first library that allowed patrons to check out materials for a certain length of time and return them. I am not a library science major, so I don’t know if there is a name for this kind of library (something like circulation library), but wondered when and where the first one was. Thanks.

Benjamin Franklin started the first circulation library in Philadelphia. Boston had the first free public library. Actually the US has been a leader in free libraries. Most other countries do not let you wander the stacks.

Am I legally allowed to call the police when a homeless man is looking at porn at the university Library?

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

I mean It kinda makes me mad that I am paying thousands of dollars a semester to use the university Library and I can’t find a computer to do my work and there is a smelly homeless guy looking at porn on a computer and I have to stand and wait for a computer.

Just tell the librarian. I thought those sites were blocked. When I attended community college those sites were blocked, needed a password to get on some sites if for a research paper and then had to provide proof from your instructor.*

How can I share music across iTunes libraries on the same computer?

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

I’ve already tried sharing iTunes libraries. It works fine, except there’s one problem. Whenever I try to import a CD, it says I don’t have enough access privileges. The way my brother and I share music on our Macbook Pro is by having a copy of our music in the shared section on the users part of our computer. I have access privileges to every single Music Folder on the computer, including all of my brothers’ folders. What am I missing?

maybe try to get your brother to import the cd?

are you the administrator of the computer?
