I recently moved to Queens. I had a NYPL library card when I lived in a different borough. However, I ruined my privleges and I have about $50 worth of fines on that card. I do plan to repay it.
However, in the meantime, can I get a library card for the Queens library system? Will they know that I have fines when I go to apply? Are all of their computers connected? Thanks.
No, Queens Public Library is not part of New York Public library.
New York public libraries are located in the Bronx, Manhattan and Staten Island.
Queens Public Library owns libraries in Queens.

If you live in city, you can get library card for free.

I turned in my application today. I have no work experiences, only volunteering experience at a library for 4 months. No references. What are my chances of getting this job? There are three page jobs available. I know a lot of people don’t know about these jobs, but what are my possibilities of getting it?
It is actually a good first job. My brother did it when he was in high school. The problem is, there are a lot of people out of work, and there is probably a lot of competition. If you get an interview, be really enthusiastic and be sure to let them know you really want the job and that you will work hard. And don’t be afraid to call them and ask for an interview. Good luck!

Do you pay an outrageous fine? And if you find them later, will they reimburse you?
sometimes depends on how many copies they have. They might let you replace it with a used book. Or they may want you to pay for it. Talk to the head librarian.

I have ripped all my exercise DVD’s to my computer and have it hooked up to my 50" hi def TV. What’s the snazziest video player/library organizer software out there? I’d love any opinions, even if it’s the standard Windows Media Player or iTunes. When I go to choose my workout for the day, I want it to be fun, let me see the details/large cover of each video (maybe even preview the video) and generally be impressive looking. I’d prefer something that will download the DVD information/album cover from the internet, launch the video, maybe allow me to add a few details or pictures, but just be as visually fun and pleasing as possible while still being intuitive and functional. Is that too much to ask?
Think Disneyland or Pixar on Steroids with professional graphics, not Windows 3.1 with a bunch of catalog text boxes of useless columns and recycled ugly generic icons in bad colors. Thanks!
XBMC. Hands down. It’s completely free and open source and works on mac, windows and linux. Once you set it up to scan the movies folder, it will catalog them and download info from IMDB.com (the largest movie info site on the internet). It downloads promo shots, DVD covers, plot summaries, actors, genres, etc.
However, your workout movies might not be cataogged on IMDB, so many of those features might not work. You can still load your own DVD covers and pictures though.
If you do use it, make sure you use the mediastream skin. I like it better.

Everytime I try to add songs the the iPod touch, it also adds songs the the mini, and I don’t want that. Please help me, I’m getting frusterated with the whole system and all i want to do is make it to where my iPod touch gets the music from the main library…
All you have to do is plug in your mini, and change the settings to manually manage the songs. Then when you add songs to iTunes and plug in your mini, the songs won’t sync to the mini, unless you manually drag and drop ‘em there.
You can maintain the automatic sync setting on your touch.

My Media Player 11 can take folders of music and make them in a playlist, but I can’t seem to actually add them to my library. These certain songs only exists in a playlist. What am I doing wrong? I remember version 10 had the option to individually add songs to your library.
Open Windows Media Player. Press "Alt" and you will see a menu come up at the top of the screen. Click "Tools", click "Options", and than click the "Library" tab. Once you are there you have many options for how you want your music imported into the Library. You can set it to automatically add a song when it is played and you can change what folders media player will look in to automatically add music.
If you need more help than message me.

It would seem that every time a library obtains a book, it is allowing potentially hundreds of people to read it without paying. How do publishing companies deal with this? Don’t they lose sales because of libraries?
library sales help consumer sales…..readers are notorious for spreading the word that they enjoyed a book. Library readers tell their friends , friends buy books…
If publishing companies relied strictly on retail sales, many books wouldn’t sell at all…
i balk at buying certain authors, however borrowing a book from the library is free, so i might take a chance….if i like it i tell my friends, if i like it enough, i might buy it , even though i’ve already read it….

i do not believe it is a responsability of the government but i do support them, they do better out education but if the government needed to cutback on their funding i would not believe they are obliged to keep the funding for the libraries

If you have statistics that show this, it’d be great. But guesswork is fine too.
i only do when a teacher limits the number of online sources you can cite… although in some instances the library can be more effective, like when you need to look up writing criticism for, say an English paper.
so i use the library/books maybe 5% of the time
